Central Valley printers make their mark | Business

Few industries have the history or have faced the challenges of printers in the Central Valley.

Printers in San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties have faced the double whammy of a recession that has cut the number of customers and new technologies that make it easier than ever for people to do work themselves.

“Overall, people are using more of their own color copiers,” said Bruce Gowans, third-generation owner of Gowans Printing Co. in Modesto. “To a lot of people, quality isn’t as important.”
