Operation Ceasefire Town Hall Meeting | Community
(Stockton, CA) - On November 14, 2012, at 7:00 pm, the City of Stockton will be holding a Town Hall Meeting to introduce the Operation Ceasefire strategy. Operation Ceasefire is a partnership-based violence reduction strategy that employs respectful, direct communication with youth and young adults at highest risk of violence. The meeting will be held at Progressive Community Church, 2820 B Street, Stockton. Members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend.
The primary goal of Operation Ceasefire is to reduce shootings, but it has also been shown to reduce recidivism among participants and improve community-police relations. Panelists will include Stewart Wakeling of the California Partnership for Safe Communities, Rev. Jeffrey Brown of Boston's TenPoint Coalition, and Pastor Lesley Simmons of South Sacramento Christian Center.
Operation Ceasefire is an element of the City’s Marshall Plan on Public Safety. The Marshall Plan Committee, comprised of members of the criminal justice system and community leaders, has been examining data related to Stockton’s crime challenges and made the recommendation to implement Operation Ceasefire, a program that was successful in Stockton in the 1990’s. The Marshall Plan Committee will present the comprehensive results of their work at a symposium in spring 2013.
