Stockton, CA to get two new fire engines
STOCKTON, CA FIRE DEPARTMENT2 new engines en route Federal grant footing majority of $1 million tab The city of Stockton, CA won an $800,000 federal grant to buy two new fire engines, officials said Monday.
The FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant requires $200,000 match from Stockton, bringing the total to $1 million, the city's spokeswoman Connie Cochran said.
With six new engines now en route to Stockton this year, Fire Chief Jeff Piechura said he will also change up his department's approach to how it responds to some calls.
In the next 18 months, he will begin sending smaller, less expensive vehicles out to calls of illnesses and minor injuries. The large, expensive firefighting equipment will stay put until it's needed.
