UOP hosts golfers from around nation at Pacific Invitational | Community
Sixty college golfers descended on Stockton’s Brookside Country Club Monday to take part in the Sixth Annual Pacific Invitational.
This year the University of the Pacific is hosting a 12-team lineup, which includes local squads like UC Davis and Fresno State as well as national teams from as far as Charlotte, North Carolina. One reason the teams keep coming back is the nearly flawless weather that was on display Monday.
“The number one reason [teams from all over the country] come out here year after year is the weather,” said University of the Pacific golf coach Brandon Goethals. “We also work pretty hard to put on a good show.”
The Tigers treated their fans to a 3-under-par performance that left the 2010 tournament champions in fifth place after the first round -- three shots behind tournament co-leaders Nevada and Denver.
