Man, 72, killed in Stockton hit and run | Crime
STOCKTON, CA - A pedestrian was struck and killed at Harding Way and Waterloo Road in Stockton at approximately 1:30 Friday afternoon, police say.
Stockton Police Department spokesman Officer Joe Silva said the victim was 72 years old.
Shortly after the collision, a man called police to say his vehicle, which was close in description to one witnesses reported, had been stolen.
Police met that man about a mile and a half away from the scene and after interviews, and having witnesses look at him, the man was arrested. He then told police where the car in the incident could be located. It was in front of a liquor store about a quarter mile away from where he was arrested.
Silva said it is not uncommon for people involved in crimes to offer stories they hope will clear them.
"A lot of times, suspects come up with stories to cover their tracks, and that's what it appears he was doing here," said Silva.
The vehicle suspected in the fatal hit and run had damage to the front.
