Suspect in Stockton double slaying arrested

STOCKTON, CA - An 18-year-old man has been taken into custody for a double murder at the Village East Apartments on E. Marsh Street near Burkett Avenue Oct. 22, say police.

U.S. Marshalls located suspect Ramiro Terrazas on the 4900 block of Kentfield Road Wednesday and was turned over to detectives investigating the fatal shootings of Marcos Garcia, 23, and Terri McCoy, 31, said Stockton police Officer Joe Silva.

Terrazas was found to have a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his possession, Silva said.

Both Garcia and Terrazas were described as gang members, Silva said. McCoy was a parolee. Why Garcia and McCOy were shot wasn't clear.

Terrazas faces murder, weapon and gang charges, according to Silva.

 

 

 

 

 

 

2 injured in Stockton drive-by shooting

STOCKTON, CA - Two people were wounded in a drive-by shooting Friday night in a south Stockton neighborhood.

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. on the 400 block of West 3rd Street, near Edison High School, Stockton police Lt. Michael Howard said.

The male and female victim were were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officer Joe Silva said the male victim suffered life-threatening injuries.

People reported seeing a a dark colored vehicle drive through the area during the time of the shooting.

In mid-September, another drive-by shooting near the high school injured three people.

Felony and repeat misdemeanor DUI offenders are over represented in traffic crashes involving alcohol or other drugs, often with tragic results.  The San Joaquin County Probation Department will be making sure that these worst-of-the-worst offenders are complying with all court orders by means of a new traffic safety grant.  The $130,000 grant was awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Operation Ceasefire Town Hall Meeting

(Stockton, CA)  - On November 14, 2012, at 7:00 pm, the City of Stockton will be holding a Town Hall Meeting to introduce the Operation Ceasefire strategy. Operation Ceasefire is a partnership-based violence reduction strategy that employs respectful, direct communication with youth and young adults at highest risk of violence.   The meeting will be held at Progressive Community Church, 2820 B Street, Stockton.  Members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The primary goal of Operation Ceasefire is to reduce shootings, but it has also been shown to reduce recidivism among participants and improve community-police relations. Panelists will include Stewart Wakeling of the California Partnership for Safe Communities, Rev. Jeffrey Brown of Boston's TenPoint Coalition, and Pastor Lesley Simmons of South Sacramento Christian Center.

Police: Man shot, killed at San Joaquin Co. Fairgrounds

STOCKTON, CA - A man died at a local hospital after being shot multiple times Sunday evening, police say.

According to Officer Joe Silva with the Stockton Police Dpeartment, the 21-year-old victim is believed to have been shot at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds at around 5 p.m. Friends then brought the victim to a Stockton-area hospital where he later died. 

Stockton police urged anyone with information relating to this incident to call (209) 937-8377. 

The death marks the 62 Stockton homicide this year.

McDonald's parking lot murder suspect captured

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA  - U.S. Marshals located and arrested a 27-year-old Stockton man at a Rancho Cordova motel Monday for a drive-up shooting at a restaurant parking lot Oct. 20.

Dennis Martin was shot dead in broad daylight in the McDonald's parking lot on the 100 block of N. Wilson Way in Stockton at 12:25 p.m. that Saturday. According to Stockton police, the gunman was in a vehicle that pulled up to Martin and his friend and there was a conversation. Then Martin was fatally shot.

Arrested Monday in connection to Martin's murder was 27-year-old Andrew Luis Estrada.
