Stockton company leaves for Lodi
News

STOCKTON, CA - A city already facing bankruptcy doesn't need news like this, but a large label making company is leaving Stockton for Lodi.

Mepco Label Systems has been located in downtown Stockton for dozens of years, but a much larger space in Lodi made the move necessary.

"It just so happens the building is perfect for our facility," Mepco's Jennifer Tracy said.

Mepco currently runs it's label printing business in several Stockton buildings, separated by a full city block. The Lodi location offers one large property, surrounded by fence.

City of Stockton Economic Development Director Wendy Saunders admitted the Mepco decision is disappointing for Stockton. She called it "unfortunate" and a "big deal".

Saunders did add the city will continue to gather property taxes from the buildings since the Tracy family still owns them and is seeking businesses to lease them out

Tracy also said her company will save about $50,000 a year in garbage and electric rates by moving to Lodi.
