STOCKTON, CA - Investigators suspect foul play in the death of a man who was discovered in a field in east Stockton Wednesday afternoon.

San Joaquin County sheriff's investigators said the body was in a field on the 2200 block of E. Carpenter Road. The discovery was reported at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The man was identified as 18-year-old Travae Carltonell, on Thursday. Investigators said Carltonell suffered head trauma.

Throughout the night, investigators gathered evidence and talked to witnesses. At one home, witnesses said they heard two to three shots, then heard a loud crash; when they looked out the window, they couldn't see anything because of the fog.

The sheriff's office said the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the sheriff's office at at (209) 468-4400 or "Text a Tip" to "274637" and in the message area type SJSO, a space, and then your tip.
