The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors has announced its selection of Harry Mavrogenes as the new Director of the Stockton Metropolitan Airport effective February 14th. Mavrogenes has been acting as Interim Director of the Airport since July 2013. Mavrogenes has served as San Joaquin County's Chief Deputy County Administrator since November 2012.
During this time he developed an Economic Strategy for the County as well as establishing a strong presence for San Joaquin County in the Silicon Valley including the opening of an office in Santa Clara. He was also a key player in helping to establish the County as an Innovation Hub (iHub).
In making the announcement Tuesday, Supervisors Chairman Bob Elliott said, "The County's airport has great potential to contribute to economic development in San Joaquin County. I am confident that under Mr. Mavrogenes' guidance and direction, our airport can become an important economic generator." Mavrogenes has more than 30 years’ experience in local government administration. Prior to coming to San Joaquin County, he served as Executive Director of the San Jose Redevelopment Agency, the largest in the state. During that time, he worked closely with the FAA and San Jose Airport in setting up regulations and standards for development around the San Jose Airport.
San Joaquin County Administrator Monica Nino said, "We are fortunate to find someone who has the broad capital project experience that this airport will need and a background in seeking opportunities for services to the community."
