Stockton Chamber launches 'Try It Local' discount program

STOCKTON - The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce launched a new program called Try It Local, an electronic discount program featuring local retailers, restaurants, service providers and more. New deals are offered once a week at a deep discount of 40-90 percent off regular price (i.e., $20 of food and drink at a restaurant for $10). The offers are delivered to Try It Local subscribers via email, social media, and TryItLocal.com. There is no cost to sign up for Try It Local – visit www.tryitlocal.com/Stockton to receive deal alerts. There is also no cost for companies to offer a deal; businesses interested being featured can visit www.TryItLocal.com for details.

Stockton Thunder to hold merchandise clearance sale April 23

STOCKTON - The Stockton Thunder will hold a merchandise and equipment clearance sale this Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Fan Attic at the Stockton Arena.

This is your chance to secure Thunder apparal, headwear and novelties that are being cleard out before summer reorders. All items will be deeply discounted. You will find hats, and short sleeve t-shirts for only $8. Long sleeve Thudner t-shirts will go for $10, hoodies and ladies vests for $30, CCM jackets for only $50 and pucks will be 40 percent off regular retail prices.

A wide variety will be available of up to 20 different styles of t-shirts and eight different styles for hats. Gloves, helmets, sticks and more, all worn and used in hockey games, will also be on sale.

If you can't make it out to the Fan Attic, you can purchase items online at www.fanattic.com starting at 10 a.m. on April 23.

Marinello School of Beauty hosting Japan Relief Cut-a-Thon through April 2

STOCKTON - Marinello School of Beauty is holding a Japan Relief Cut-a-Thon until Saturday, April 2. The beauty school wants to do its part to help victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami devastation in Japan. You can do your part by coming to Marinello's at 445 West Weber Avenue, Suite 223 in Stockton.

Hair cuts are $5 and all proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to support the Japanese relief efforts. Marinello's in Stockton is open from 10:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m Thursday through Friday and 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday. If you'd like to stop by and help in their good cause, you walk-in or call ahead to make an appointment by calling (2090 948-1033. When you arrive, mention you're there for the Cut-a-Thon.

Free tax assistance still available

The Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library is partnering with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to bring free 2010 income tax assistance to our community. The VITA program offers free income tax help to families earning $54,000 or less a year.

Residents interested in getting free income tax assistance must schedule an appointment with Arnetta Lee-Gray, VITA coordinator, by calling her at (209) 483-4190.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance will be offered at the following libraries:

Cesar Chavez Central Library - 605 North El Dorado Street in Stockton; Tuesday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tracy Branch Library - 20 East Eaton Avenue in Tracy; Thursday, April 7, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This free program is provided through the generosity of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
